M-Systems today announced plans to work with PalmSource to bring Palm OS support for its 2 GB MLC NAND-based DiskOnChip H series Storage solution.

Based on NAND and Multi-Level Cell (MLC) NAND technologies and a built-in ultra thin controller, mobile DiskOnChip provides high memory system performance, enables reliable storage, saves on power consumption, and reduces overall system cost. It also guarantees that users never lose their data even after power failure.

palmOne Tungsten T5 Several Palm Powered devices already use M-Systems' DiskOnChip, including the Treo 650 and Tungsten T5 from palmOne, the Xplore M28 smartphone from GSPDA, and the QDA 700 smartphone from Qool Labs.

M-Systems plans to bring full TrueFFS software support for 2 GB DiskOnChip products to current and future versions of the Palm OS.

TrueFFS, the company's flash management software, means that the DiskOnChip flash disk appears to the operating system as a standard disk drive.

There was no word on when the first Palm OS device with DiskOnChip H series built into it would be available.

This announcement was made at the CTIA Wireless trade show, going on now in New Orleans.
