ASUS has officially announced two new Pocket PCs with built-in GPS receivers.
These two will have a great deal in common, but the ASUS MyPal A636 will have WiFi and a single SD slot, while the MyPal A632 will not have WiFi, but it will include both an SD and a miniSD slot.
These will be fairly high-end handhelds that run Windows Mobile 5.0 on a 416 MHz XScale PXA272 processor.
They will have 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of ROM, of which about 85 MB will be user accessible.
Of course, one of the most significant features of this new series is its GPS capabilities. Both of these MyPal models will have a GPS antenna that sits flush against their back when not in use, but then swivels to one side when needed.
Their SiRFstar III support should give them excellent reception of satellite signals.
Like other Pocket PCs from ASUS, the MyPal A636 and A632 will have USB host capabilities.
They will include a 3.5-inch, QVGA Touchscreen and Bluetooth 1.2.
Both these devices will be the same size: 4.8 inches tall, 2.8 inches wide, and 0.73 inches thick (12.2 cm by 7.3 cm by 1.8 cm) and 6.2 oz. (175 g).
According to ASUS, these handhelds can last for 7.5 hours with the GPS receiver active or 44 hours of regular Pocket PC use.
The MyPal A636 and A632 will be released in Europe later this month. The A636 will also be available in the U.S. from some online retailers.
Additional information on these new Pocket PCs is available on the ASUS web site.
