It seems like cellular-wireless Pocket PCs are cropping up everywhere these days. However, China-based Amoi has announced one that stands out from the crowd.

The G6301 will use a clamshell design. When closed, it will have a numberpad and a 96-by-64-pixel, 1.1-inch, OLED display. Above this will be a 1.3 megapixel camera.

Opening it will reveal a QWERTY keypad with a horizontal orientation. On the other side of the hinge will be a 320-by-240-pixel, 2.4-inch display.

Amoi G6301 It will run Windows Mobile for Pocket PC, but what version of this is not known. The G6301 won't be released until near the end of this year, and a new version of Windows Mobile is expected before then.

It will include a 300 MHz Intel XScale processor.

This may be the first Pocket PC to use SanDisk's TransFlash memory cards. Unlike other memory card formats, this is intended to mostly stay in the device and act as its built-in memory. Therefore, the G6301's amount of memory will be determined by the size of its TransFlash card. The largest of these currently avalable is 512 MB.

At this point, Amoi is emphasizing this device's game-playing capabilities, and its ability to play streaming audio and video. It will have a good-size speaker on either side of its screen.

This will be a GSM/GPRS device (900/1800/1900 MHz). It will also support EDGE, a wireless networking standard that can provide average speeds of 100 kbps to 130 kbps, significantly faster than regular GPRS networks.

This will be one of a new generation of smaller cellular-wireless Pocket PCs. When closed, it will be 4.3 inches tall, 2.0 inches wide, and 1.0 inches thick (10.5 cm by 5.1 cm by 2.5 cm).

This device was on display last week at the CES tradeshow, where msmobiles.com and Phone Scoop both took pictures of it.
