Bluetooth Adapter for Clies Coming Soon

Hagiwara Sys-Com has announced in Japan a module that brings Bluetooth to many Sony Clie models.

Sony included Bluetooth in many of its last handhelds, but not all. For example, the versions of the TH55 that were released in the U.S. and Japan had Wi-Fi but no Bluetooth. In addition, the TH55 doesn't support the Bluetooth Memory Stick.

Hagiwara Sys-Com's Bluetooth Adapter (HNT-BT1) will plug into the handheld's HotSync port and allow the device to communicate with Bluetooth enabled mobile phones and GPS receivers.

This device will use Bluetooth 1.2 and will be a Class 2 device. It will support Dial-Up Networking (DUN), Serial Port (SPP), Generic Access (GAP), and Service Discovery Application (SDAP).

The HNT-BT1 works with the NX80V, TJ25, TJ37, TH55, TH55DK, and VZ90.

It will be 1.6 inches long, 1.3 inches wide, and 0.4 inches thick (40 mm by 34 mm by 10 mm). It will weigh 1 ounce (30 g).

Hagiwara Sys-Com says its Bluetooth Adapter will debut in Japan on March 30. It is not known when, or if, it will be available in the U.S.
