Mobile physicians have a new Palm OS software tool designed to provide up-to-date information and reduce clinical errors: ePocrates Essentials.
This suite includes three components, the new ePocrates Lab reference, ePocrates RX Pro, and ePocrates DX, combined into one easy to use application.
The ePocrates Lab component contains information on hundreds of medical tests, including interpretation and next steps, which is integrated into the DX application, offering information about diseases or prescription drugs that can cause abnormal test results. The ePocrates Rx Pro reference features 3,000 monographs that include dosing information, contraindications, an alternative medicine guide with 400 herbals, and a health plan formulary with retail drug prices.
"The ePocrates Essentials suite does for the clinician what Microsoft Office did for the office worker -- providing the applications needed most in an integrated suite," said Kirk Loevner, ePocrates CEO. "All of the ePocrates applications are authored from the ground up, specifically designed for mobile devices."
"I especially like the hot links between the modules," said Sam Wang, MD, faculty member and Associate Program Director for the community hospital based Memorial Family Practice Residency Program in Houston, Texas. "Overall, it's probably the most useful, best integrated set of clinical information modules that I've used thus far. It has become the most used medical app on my PDA."
The ePocrates Essentials suite is available now for Palm OS devices, and a Pocket PC version is expected later this year. Pricing options include annual or two year subscriptions. For more information or online purchase, visit the ePocrates web site.
