A German web site has a source who claims to have seen palmOne's next high-end model. This person says this device won't have the name many have been expecting.

According to nexave.de, the new handheld won't be called the Tungsten T4, but instead will be the Tungsten T5.

A possible reason for this is the fact that the number 4 is considered to be very unlucky in China and Japan. This is similar to the superstitious fear some Westerners have of the number 13.

If the nexave.de source is correct about this name, this won't be the first time this handheld maker has skipped over the number 4 when naming its products. A few years ago, it went straight from the Palm III to the Palm V.

But Wait, There's More

This isn't all this source had to say about the Tungsten T5. This person says it is similar to the T3, but lacks the slider that has been a hallmark of the Tungsten T series since its beginning. As such, it is somewhat thinner and taller than its predecessor.

Internally, the device will supposedly have an amazing 256 MB of RAM. It will run a 400 MHz processor.

While this source could say the T5 will definitely have Bluetooth, he was unsure if it will have Wi-Fi.

Unfortunately, the source was unclear on a number of other details, such as whether this model will run Palm OS Cobalt, the latest version of this operating system. He also wasn't able to say what the screen resolution will be.

One of Many Sets of Rumors

It should be pointed out that this is hardly the first person to come forward claiming to have a description of palmOne's replacement for the T3. Unfortunately, all of these sources disagree with each other in many ways.

For example, according to one rumor this model will have dual SD card slots but no Wi-Fi. Another claims it will have built-in 802.11g. So far, nothing has come along to give one of these any more credence than the others.

palmOne isn't likely to release any new models until mid-Fall, and there will almost certainly be many more rumors about upcoming devices between now and then.

Thanks to 1src.com for the tip.
