palmOne has released a ROM update for the new Tungsten T3 that fixes a problem this model has with some SD cards.
Not long after the release of the T3, some users began to complain that their new handheld had problems with some SD cards. And a couple of weeks after that, it was discovered that this model also had a problem that caused it to operate much slower after it had undergone a reset.
Apparently, the two problems were related, and palmOne has released a patch that fixes both. It can be downloaded from the company's web site. The company suggests that all T3 owners install this.
This will update the handheld's ROM, which will erase all the data on the device. Therefore, it is important that everything on the T3 be backed up before installing the update. This can be done by performing a HotSync.
Update: Initially, some people were having problems installing this patch, so palmOne has released an updated version, which appears to fixed whatever was causing these difficulties.
palmOne also recommends that the SD card be reformatted. If users are still experiencing problems with a particular card after applying the patch and reformatting the card, palmOne says they need to take it up with the card's manufacturer.
A couple of third-party applications have been released that were intended to fix the T3's slowdown problem. If this patch performs as palmOne says it will, these will no longer be necessary.
