It was announced today that Founder Technology Group, China's second largest PC maker, is going to release products running the Palm OS in its home country.
According to Dow Jones, Foundertech's first model is expected to debut next May. This will be an ebook reader that can also run other Palm OS applications.
Foundertech is just one of several Chinese companies who have agreements like this with PalmSource. China is seen as an important growth market for handhelds of all types. IDC has predicted that the handheld market in China will grow more than 20% per year between now and 2006, with sales rising to more than 5 million units in that year.
The announcement was made by PalmSource CEO David Nagel, who is in China for the unveiling of the P100 and P300, two new Palm-powered handhelds from Legend Group.
