HP Brings Wi-Fi Protected Access to iPAQ h4100 Series

When HP announced recently that it wasn't going to release Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition updates for any of its current handhelds, it said that this didn't mean there would be no updates of any kind. Specifically, it promised to bring Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) to selected models.

It has already done so for the iPAQ h5500 series, and now has released a ROM update for the h4100 series that includes WPA support.

WPA was developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance in an attempt to make wireless networks more secure.

This ROM update also makes a number of other bug fixes and enhancements.

It can be found on the HP support web site.

What's a ROM Update?

The ROM is where the operating system and built-in applications are stored. Changes made to the files in ROM are permanent and will survive the device undergoing a hard reset.

Updating the ROM will erase everything on the handheld, usually including the contents of the File Store.

Thanks to PocketPCTools for the tip.
