The hx4705 is the first iPAQ ever to include a VGA display. It also has multiple kinds of wireless networking and dual memory card slots.
As mentioned earlier, this handheld has a 640-by-480-pixel (VGA) screen that measures 4 inches diagonally. Because it uses Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, this screen can be easily switched between portrait and landscape modes.
This device has 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of ROM. This unusual arrangement, with far more ROM than RAM, allows the hx4705 to have 55 MB of RAM available to the user and an 80 MB iPAQ File Store. This file store is non-volatile memory, which means it won't be erased if the device undergoes a hard reset.
The hx4705 includes both 802.11b and Bluetooth 1.2 wireless networking. This latest version of Bluetooth offers better performance when used at the same time as Wi-Fi.
It also includes a CompactFlash slot and an SD/MMC slot that supports SDIO.
This iPAQ doesn't have a D-pad. Instead, has a small touchpad below the screen intended to be used with a fingertip. This means this device uses an on-screen cursor.
In an unusual move, the hx4705 comes with a copy of Pocket Informant 5, a third-party applicating that can replace the standard Contacts/Calendar/Tasks applications.
It is 5.2 inches tall, 3.0 inches wide, and .6 inches thick (131 mm by 77 mm mm 15 mm). It weighs 6.6 ounces (186.7 g).
It comes with a desk cradle and an 1800 mAh Lithium-lon swappable battery. This handheld also comes with a flip cover and a desktop cradel.
The suggested price for the iPAQ hx4705 is $650. HP expects this device to be available August 26.
