Mergic VPN 1.1 is the first Virtual Private Network (VPN) application to support all Palm OS 5 devices. Previous releases worked only on the Palm Tungsten C handheld.
VPN software allows users to securely access a private network, such as a corporate or home LAN, using a connection to the Internet. This means that users can access resources on a LAN just as if they were directly connected to it.
Mergic VPN 1.1 supports all Palm Tungsten T handhelds, as well as Treo 600 smartphones, and Sony Clie devices, as long as they have some means of connecting to the Internet, such as WiFi, Bluetooth, IR, cable, or a built-in mobile phone. Palm OS 3.1 to 4.1 devices are also supported, making Mergic VPN for almost anyone who needs secure access to their home or corporate LAN.
Features include easy setup options, several authentication types, and 128-bit encryption. Connections can be started manually or with the Auto Connect feature. A minimum of 320KB of space is required on the Palm OS handheld, and the VPN server must have PPTP support as well.
Mergic VPN 1.1 is currently available for $29.99 from Handango and PalmGear. For more information or a free fifteen day trial, visit the Mergic web site.
