Navman has announced the Navman GPS 4460 for Palm OS devices. This peripheral will be a voice-enabled Bluetooth (class 2) GPS receiver that will come with SmartST II for street-level mapping of North America, including Hawaii and Canada.
Features will include address to address routing, male or female voice prompting in a choice of seven languages, and a POI database that includes information on retail stores, public monuments, hotels, public transport, gas stations, restaurants, sports arenas, and hospitals.
SmartST will allow the user to choose between the shortest and the quickest route, and can set favorite locations. The software will also support the palmOne Tungsten T3 with widescreen portrait and landscape modes. Once installed to supported handheld devices, the map, voice, and POI data will reside on an SD/MMC expansion card, freeing handheld memory. The GPS receiver also features a blinking LED for connectivity status and low battery warnings.
Navman did not release a full list of handhelds that will be compatible with this device, saying only that it will work with select devices from palmOne and Sony.
The full package will include the wireless GPS antenna, SmartST Professional navigation software, vehicle power adapter and mounting brackets, 3 AAA batteries, and an armband and lanyard for portable outdoor use. The suggested retail price is $299, and the Navman 4460 GPS will be available from major electronics stores in February.
