New Linux Smartphone Offers Tons of Features

Invair Technologies, a German handheld maker, plans to launch the Filewalker Messenger at this week's CeBIT tradeshow. This runs a version of the Linux operating system, includes a GSM/GPRS mobile phone, and an impressive list of other features.

It has an integrated GPS module, Bluetooth wireless networking, an SD/MMC slot, an infrared port, and a Lithium-polymer rechargeable battery. In length and width, it's approximately the size of a credit card.

At this point, it doesn't appear that its backlit, grayscale display is also a touchscreen.

The Filewalker Messenger is GSM/GPRS Triband (900/1800/1900 MHz) mobile phone, with hands-free and vibration options.

It can also handle wireless data, including email and Web surfing. Other applications include an address book, calendar, notepad, organizer, calculator and Microsoft Outlook synchronization with direct support for Exchange Server.

It runs a Texas Instrument OMAP 5910 processor at 150 MHz. It has 64 MB of RAM and 32 MB of Flash ROM.

It will be available in five languages: French, German, English, Italian, and Spanish. The suggested retail price of the Filewalker Messenger is 650 Euros (about $715 US).
