Recently, a rumor surfaced that Nintendo had licensed the Palm OS, and was going to create Palm OS-compatible personal information management (PIM) applications for the Nintendo DS, its latest gaming device.
Because one of its two displays is a touchscreen, it is possible that the Nintendo DS could be used for more than just gaming.
Now, a new report on SPOng.com says that not only was the previous rumor correct, but these PIM apps are going to become the centerpiece of the device.
According to this site, the Nintendo DS "will evolve from a pure gaming machine into a PDA equipped to play Nintendo 64 quality games."
Supposedly, the Nintendo DS was never intended to go head-to-head with Sony's Playstation Portable (PSP). Instead, it was announced at the same time as the PSP as a spoiler, intended to take some of the attention off Sony's new device.
SPOng.com claims it has inside information that indicates that Nintendo will announce at the E3 Expo in May a device that will greatly resemble the PSP, and is intended to compete with that gaming device.
Recently, this company registered "Nintendo V-Pocket" as a trademark, setting off a wave of speculation in the gaming industry as to what this will be. According to rumor, this will be the name for its suite of PIM apps.
The Nintendo V-Pocket will reportedly also be unveiled at the E3 Expo.
