Textware Solutions, the company that makes the popular Fitaly text input system, has decided to stop all Palm OS development.

According to a statement from Jean Ichbiah on the company's web site, this means that there will never be versions of Fitaly or Instant Text that are compatible with the Palm TX, the latest Palm handheld.

Ichbiah didn't give reason for this decision, but it is well known that this company has been unhappy with the fact that Palm, Inc. has made significant changes to the code that handles the virtual Graffiti area on every one of its recent handhelds. It has also not released documentation on what changes have been made.

This has forced Textware Solutions to backwards engineer new versions of Fitaly for every model.

It seems obvious that Textware Solutions' developers got tired of this, and have decided to concentrate on platforms that are easier to develop for.

In the future, this company will only create new versions its products for Pocket PC and Table PC.

Ichbiah concluded by saying, "We'll continue to sell existing Palm OS products. In addition, customer who bought our products on prior devices in recent months and had expected to use them on the T/X will be entitled to use our unconditional money-back guarantee."
