Say Goodbye to Fossil's PDA Watches (Updated)

It appears Fossil has given up on all of its high-tech watches.

In the past, this company has offered wristwatches that ran either the Palm OS or Microsoft's SPOT technology.

Just recently, all of these were removed from Fossil's web site.

Fossil Wrist PDA Still, despite this move, it should be made clear that this company hasn't officially announced that it was dropping these two product lines.

Update: According to SpotStop.com, Fossil intends to carry on with the Abacus line of SPOT watches. These are generally sold through retailers like TigerDirect.

Not Much Traction

Despite all the hopes invested in both the Palm OS- and SPOT-based watches, it seems that neither did particularly well.

The first Palm OS watch was announced back in 2003, but -- because of technical problems -- didn't debut until 2005.

And last year Fossil had to work hard to put down rumors that it was dropping its SPOT watch line.

But, in light of Fossil's difficulties, it seems clear that any company seeking to put out a PDA watch will have a hard row to hoe.

Clearly, any similar device in the future will have to overcome the drawbacks of this company's high-tech watches.

This means they will need to be much smaller and offer much longer battery lives.
