Microsoft representatives have just announced that their company will release applications that will allow Windows Mobile Smartphone users to view Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files on their devices.
Currently, Smartphone users can't open Microsoft Office files they receive as attachments.
This project is in a very early stage in development, and these viewers won't be released until some time next year.
Exactly what features will be included haven't been settled on., yet. Users may -- or may not -- have limited editing abilities.
Also not yet decided on is how this software will be distributed.
Users who already own a Smartphone might be able to install these viewers themselves.
If this is the way it is distributed, Microsoft has not yet decided what to charge for it, if anything.
But it's also possible that the only way to get these applications will be to buy a new device.
