Sony Ericsson P900 Replacement Expected this Week

There have been rumors circulating for months that Sony Ericsson is developing a replacement for its top-of-the-line smartphone, the P900. These rumors have received a boost by the appearance of what are supposed to be some pictures of this device.

mobile9 was given a series of images showing the P910. This device is supposed to greatly resemble the P900, so it's possible these pictures were created by modifying images of the current model.

The major change will apparently be the inclusion of a small thumb keyboard. The P900 has a numberpad which flips down to expose the bottom part of the screen. According to all the information that has leaked out, on its replacement, one side of this will have a numberpad, while the other will have a QWERTY keyboard.

Reportedly, this smartphone will debut on July 15.

More about the P910

Currently it isn't certain this model will actually be named the P910, though that is what it is most frequently called. According to information leaked several months ago to MobileBurn, this device has the code-name Layla.

Apparently, Sony Ericsson isn't going to improve the built-in camera in this smartphone. The new model is supposed to have the same VGA camera the P900 does.

Reportedly, the P910 will offer support for RIM's BlackBerry email service, something an increasing number of companies are including with their wireless devices.

Not much else is known for sure about this device, but a few educated guesses can be made. Like its predecessor, Layla will surely run the Symbian OS and include the UIQ user interface. It will probably have a 208-by-320-pixel screen and a Memory Stick Duo slot. It is almost certain it will use GSM/GPRS wireless networks and offer Bluetooth.
