The PalmSource Developer Conference kicks off later today and will continue through Thursday.

The major topic of discussion will be Palm OS Cobalt, previously known as Palm OS 6. There will be several keynote addresses on this operating system and many more sessions. However, no companies are expected to announce New Handhelds running Cobalt at the conference.

David Nagel The first event today is a keynote from David Nagel, PalmSource CEO and President, who will be speaking on "Where We Are and Where We're Heading."

Afterwards, there will be a keynote from Larry Slotnick on "Palm OS Futures: Delivering On the Promise of Simply Powerful Mobility." Mr. Slotnick is PalmSource's Chief Products Officer.

Also the first morning there will be the session most developers have been waiting for, the Palm OS Cobalt Technical Introduction. This will be put on by David Fedor, Director, Developer Architecture and Disclosure for PalmSource.

After lunch, the conference will break up into various sessions with titles like "3rd Party Palm OS Developer Tools" and "What's the latest on 5.x?"

Wednesday will start with a Q&A session called "Up Close and Personal with Jeff Hawkins and David Nagel." Mr. Hawkins is, of course, well-known as the Father of the Palm Handheld.

The rest of the day is devoted to individual sessions. As is typical with developer conferences, these are broken up into groups, called tracks. Tracks at this years' PalmSource Developer Conference include Palm OS Cobalt, Core Technology and Tools, General Interest, Wireless, and the Palm OS Business.

There will be two keynote addresses on Thursday. During the first, technology expert Guy Kawasaki will talk about the rules that make new products and services successful. The second will be at the very end of the day and will be called "The Future of Mobile Computing."
