There are surely plenty of Apple Macintosh users who are happy that PocketMac is around, This is an OS X application that lets people synchronize their Pocket PC with their Mac. However, this application has one drawback: it costs over $40.
For all those who thought this was too much to pay, Information Appliance Associates has released PocketMac Lite Edition, which costs only $14.95.
"Our customers have spoken and we have listened," said Terence Goggin, CTO of Information Appliance Associates. "There are so many Mac-based Pocket PC users out there who don't need the full functionality of PocketMac Pro--they want something simple that syncs the OS X Address Book & iCal...something that integrates with iSync and has the same stability of PocketMac Pro, with a smaller price tag."
PocketMac Lite also offers complete support for wireless synching with Pocket PCs over Bluetooth or Airport (802.11b). Of course, USB support is included as well.
This application fully integrates with Apple's iSync.
PocketMac Lite even offers some features one might expect only in the full version, like the ability to mount the Pocket PC's internal memory and any Storage cards on the desktop as removable drives.
Also it allows the handheld to use the Mac's Internet connection, allowing it to exchange email, surf the Web, and more directly while it's connected to the Mac.
Of course, the full version is still around and offers features not available in PocketMac Lite, like the ability to sync with Microsoft Entourage, as well as iTunes and iPhoto.
In addition, PocketMac Pro users view and extract data from Pocket Office applications on their Mac.
More information on both versions of PocketMac can be found on the company's web site.
