Research In Motion (RIM) has taken the wraps off its first BlackBerry wireless handheld with a color screen. It also introduced a monochrome version of the same handheld.
The one with the color screen is called the BlackBerry 7230, while the Blackberry 6230 has a monochrome display. These are available today in Germany and Austria as part of T-Mobile International's retail launch of the BlackBerry. Details on pricing and roaming services are available from T-Mobile International. These are expected to be available soon in other countries, including the U.S.
Both of these handhelds support worldwide international roaming on GSM/GPRS networks and deliver email, voice, SMS, browser and organizer applications. Users can read and forward email attachments from their BlackBerry handheld, including: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
The 7230 and 6230 have 16 MB flash memory plus 2 MB SRAM, a rechargeable and removable lithium battery, and USB connectivity. Both the screen and keyboard are backlit for easy reading and typing during day or night.
