DDH Software has released Mobile TS, an application for wireless Palm OS devices that allows remote control of a desktop computer. Features include the ability to use any desktop software or network resources on the connected computer, such as email, CAD, and other enterprise applications. It is possible to print, email, or edit the information remotely using a Palm OS device.
The connection on the desktop computer is handled by the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) feature built into operating systems such as Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Server and 2003 Server. RDP uses an encryption system for security and caches as necessary to speed up performance over relatively slow wireless connections. Thin client technology allows more than one Mobile TS user to access the same desktop at a time, providing that computer is running Windows 2000 or 2003 Server.
Mobile TS requires a Palm OS 5 device and can be used in portrait or landscape mode, depending on what screen orientations are supported on that device. It is possible to use the navigation pad to scroll around the screen or to set a preference to "squeeze" all of the information from the desktop screen down to fit on the smaller Palm OS screen.
