Last week, Brighthand was leaked an overview of many of HP's handheld plans for the rest of the year. Now, new information is available about one of these models, the iPAQ hx4700.
According to iPAQabilities, this Pocket PC will have a 4-inch 640-by-480-pixel display. This will make it the first iPAQ to sport a VGA screen. Because it will use Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, the screen will support both portrait and landscape modes.
It will have a 624 MHz Intel XScale processor, 128 of RAM, and 64 MB of ROM. About 20 MB of the ROM will be available to the user as a File Store.
The hx4700 will include an infrared port (SIR), Wi-Fi (802.11b), and Bluetooth 1.2. This latest version of the Bluetooth standard has been designed to reduce interference between wireless technologies.
This handheld will also have a CompactFlash slot and an SD/MMC slot. It isn't known if it supports SDIO, but it seems likely.
If the information leaked to iPAQabilities is correct, this device won't have a D-pad. Instead, it will have a small touchpad below the screen intended to be used with a fingertip.
The hx4700 will be 5.1 inches tall, 3.0 inches wide, and 0.6 inches thick (12.9cm by 7.7cm by 1.5cm). Its weight is not yet known. It will not be able to use iPAQ expansion sleeves.
It will come with a swappable 1800 mAh Lithium-ion battery. An optional 3600 mAh one will also be available.
The iPaq hx4700 is expected to be available in late July. Pricing is not yet known, but it it likely to be between $500 and $600.
