Rumors have been for circulating for several months that Motorola is preparing to release an updated version of the MPx200 smart phone. Today, the first pictures of this model, supposedly called MPx220, have emerged.
A Flash animation file showing this Windows Mobile device has been posted in the forums of MoDaCo. This makes it clear that, unlike its predecessor, the MPx220 will have a Bluetooth and a VGA camera.
It has been known for some time that this model will have a clamshell design, with a screen on one side and a thumbpad , buttons, and keypad on the other. The main screen, like all handsets running this operating system, will be have a resolution of 176 by 220 pixels. On the outside will be a small screen with a clock and some phone-related information.
In addition, the MPx220 will have 32 MB of RAM and an SD card slot, which is expected to support SDIO. This model will run Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone, while the current one uses Smartphone 2002.
Physically, it will be 3.5 inches by 1.9 by 1.1 inches (89 mm by 48 mm by 27mm) when closed and weigh 4 ounces (113 g).
Until recently, it was believed that the MPx220 would be released near the end of the first quarter of this year. Earlier this month, however, DigiTimes reported that this model won't be available until June.
