Although it has not yet been announced, a great deal of information has leaked out about HP's upcoming cellular wireless Pocket PC, the iPAQ h6300.
If there are any who are still skeptical, an employee at a U.S. wireless service provider has found a mention of it in his company's tech support database. Specifically, it is a description of how to soft reset the h6300.
In addition, there's a picture of this handheld that indicates where the reset hole can be found. This image indicates that the h6300 will look like the pictures pocketpc italia.com published several months ago (see picture at left).
The source for this information requested that his company's name not be revealed.
There can be little doubt that there will be a model called the iPAQ h6300 coming at some point. Last month, HP even had a page on its support site for it, though this has since been removed.
Supposedly, this device will run the Phone Edition of Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PC on a TI OMAP 1510 processor, though the speed for this is not yet known. It will reportedly include 64 MB of RAM and 64 MB of ROM.
This model will include a 3.5-inch transflective screen capable of displaying 16-bit color. This display will have 240-by-320-pixel resolution.
It will also have an SDIO-capable SD slot and a flip cover.
Reportedly, the HP iPAQ h6300 will be a Quad-Band (850/900/1800/1900) GSM/GPRS device, meaning it could be used in the U.S., Europe, and almost every other country.
However, it won't stop there. It is expected to be the first cellular wireless handheld that will also offer Bluetooth 1.1 and Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless networking.
The h6300 will supposedly be 4.5 inches high (not counting the antenna), 2.9 inches wide, and 0.7 inches thick. (11.7 x 7.4 x 1.8 cm) It will weigh 6.5 ounces. This model has sometimes been compared in size with the iPAQ h2215, which is 4.5 by 3.0 by .6 inches and 5.1 ounces.
Because a powerful battery is necessary for any wireless handheld, the h6300 will sport a 1800 mAh swappable one.
This model is expected to be available from T-mobile sometime this summer for about $600. T-Mobile reportedly has a contract that gives it exclusive rights to this model for three months, so other carriers won't be getting it until sometime this fall.
Of course, all of this information is unconfirmed, and any of these specifications could turn out to be incorrect.
