Rumors have been circulating for weeks now that Motorola is preparing to release an updated version of the MPx200 smart phone. Some new information about this new model, supposedly called MPx220, has emerged.
smartfone.net has obtained an image from Motorola that gives the specifications of this model. However, this image is clearly labeled "Draft" and the final specifications could be different.
Though this document doesn't mention it, a previous source said the MPx220 will include Bluetooth and smartfone.net has confirmed that Bluetooth has been left off this document, not from the smart phone.
As often happens with rumors, the latest information contradicts some of the earlier rumors about this device. However, both sources agree about the presence of a built-in camera.
According to the supposed specifications, the MPx220 will have a clamshell design with an external antenna. It will have two screens, a main one that is 176 by 220 pixels and a 96-by-64 secondary one on the outside to display phone-related data.
Previously, it was thought this model won't have a built-in SD card reader. It will, plus a second one will be available an an optional accessory.
The MPx220 is expected to be a quad-band GSM/GPRS device. It will have an 860 mAh battery, with a larger one being available separately.
The specifications say it will be 3.4 inches by 1.9 by .9 inches (87 mm by 47 mm by 23 mm) and less than 3.3 ounces (93 g).
According to smartfone.net, the MPx220 will debut at the end of March on T-Mobile in the U.S. AT&T Wireless, which is currently carrying the MPx200, is supposedly going to forgo the new model in favor of another Windows powered smart phone.
This is just one of the three new models in this series expected from Motorola later this year. However, little is known about the other two, the MPx100 and MPx300, besides the fact that Motorola has asked Compal to manufacture them.
