Fujitsu-Siemens is reportedly working on a new mid-range Pocket PC for release later this year.
FirstLoox.org is reporting that it was told by an anonymous source about Fujitsu-Siemens' plans to release the Pocket Loox 4xx. This upcoming model will supposedly run Windows Mobile 2003 on an Intel PXA255 300MHz processor. It will have 64 MB of RAM, though it isn't known at this time how much of this will be available to the user. It will also have 32 MB of ROM.
Apparently, the developers have not yet made up their minds about whether to build Bluetooth into this model.
This handheld will have a 3.5" display at the standard Pocket PC resolution. It will be capable of displaying 16-bit color.
If this information is correct, the Pocket Loox 4xx will also include a built-in SD memory card reader that supports SDIO, which means it will be able to use non-memory peripherals that plug into the SD slot. This will be its only slot.
It will, of course, include the Pocket PC standard software for editing documents and spreadsheets, sending and receiving email, and playing multimedia.
It will have a removable battery, though the capacity of this is not yet known.
Though the exact dimensions of this model weren't part of leaked information, it is supposed to have a slim design.
The anticipated release of the Pocket Loox 4xx will be sometime in May. The European price is expected to be 299 Euros or 335 Euros if Bluetooth included. It is not known if this model will be released in the U.S.
Back in September, FirstLoox.org reported a rumor about an upcoming Pocket Loox model that is also expected to be released in May. This handheld will supposedly run a next-generation XScale processor (code-named Bulverde) and Windows Mobile 2004 (code-named Magneto), if it is available on time.
Thanks to Duncan at FirstLoox.org for the tip.
