A pair of new beta versions of Skype for Pocket PC are now available.

This application allows users to make Skype voice calls for free using wireless networking.

It can also be used to call regular phones, but the company charges for this service.

What's New

One of the primary changes in Skype for Pocket PC 1.2 is a beta that supports handhelds with slower processors.

Previous versions have recommended a Pocket PC with at least a 400 MHz processor. One of the newly-released betas supports models with a 312 MHz chip.

Other significant changes in both betas include adding support for landscape mode and 240-by-240-pixel and 480-by-480-pixel screens.

The beta versions of Skype for Pocket PC 1.2 can be downloaded, free of charge, from its developer's web site.

A handheld with Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC or above is required.
