SmartMovie, previously available only for Pocket PC and Symbian devices, has now been ported to the Palm OS 5 platform. The application is a video player for handheld devices. A desktop PC conversion program is also included.

SmartMovie The mobile portion of the program supports playback in portrait and landscape mode, as well as subtitles for foreign films. The brightness and audio playback volume can also be controlled directly in the handheld application.

The converter uses the standard AVI format, and additional codecs are available for download from the developer's web site.

It is possible to split large files into several parts that require less memory on the Palm OS handheld, Pocket PC, or Symbian phone. Conversion typically runs five times faster than standard movie playback.

The Palm OS version requires Palm OS 5 and 300 KB of memory. Compatible devices include the Garmin iQue 3600, palmOne Tungsten C/E/T3/Zire 72, Sony Clie NX/NZ/TG series devices, as well as the TJ25 and TJ35. A desktop PC with Windows 98/ME/2000/XP is also required, with DirectX 7.

SmartMovie 2.40 is now available for $29.99.
