Rumors have been circulating lately that Sony is planning a new model for its UX series. According to a Sony spokesperson, there is no basis for these.
Recently, there have been numerous posts in discussion forums about an upcoming handheld called the Clie UX80. There are even some pictures, which have been proved to be fakes. Supposedly, this will use the same size screen as the other UX series models but will also include both portrait and landscape support. In addition, it is rumored to have 64 MB of RAM, a 1.4 megapixel camera, and a different key arrangement.
Yesterday, an official spokesperson for Sony emphatically denied that this model exists, or that his company plans to release something like it any time soon.
Though Sony may not be working on a new UX series model, surely it has other New Handhelds in the pipeline. Last week, Masanobu Yoshida, president of Sony's handheld unit, said his company intends to keep up its aggressive pace of new product releases. This includes releasing models running Palm OS 6 next year.
