Sony Ericsson Unveils P990 Smartphone

Sony Ericsson has announced the P990, its next UIQ smartphone.

This will be the P910 replacement that rumors have been speaking of for some time. It will have the same general shape as its predecessor, but will include a built-in keyboard beneath a flip-down numberpad

The P990 will be the first device to run the new Symbian OS 9.1, and it will also have the new UIQ 3 user interface.

Sony Ericsson P990 This smartphone will use GSM/GPRS networks, and will also have support for UMTS, so it will have typical data transfer speeds between 400 Kb/s and 700 Kb/s.

It will also have WiFi and Bluetooth wireless networking.

The P990's 2.8-inch color Touchscreen will have a QVGA (240 by 320 pixel) resolution.

Its 2 megapixel camera will feature auto-focus and digital zoom. It will support both images and video.

This device will have 80 MB of internal storage, plus a Memory Stick Duo slot. It will come with a 64 MB card.

This smartphone will be 4.4 inches tall, 2.2 inches wide, and 1.0 inch thick (114 mm by 57 mm by 26 mm).

Pricing and Availability

Sony Ericsson says the P990 will be available in Europe during the first three months of next year. It will be released in mainland China when the required 3G services are available.

So far, there has been no mention of a release in the Americas.
