SplashData has launched SplashBlog for the palmOne Treo and other Palm OS wireless devices. This allows users to not only capture pictures with their smartphone or handheld, but also instantly publish these to a photo blog for friends and family to see.

The process of "blogging," maintaining a personal journal on the Internet that is frequently updated, has been steadily growing in popularity. SplashBlog streamlines the process of mobile photo blogging, allowing users to capture an image and publish it to an online photoblog in as little as two clicks.

It includes everything users need to publish their photos online, including software for the smartphone and a free online photoblog account at splashblog.com. SplashBlog is also compatible with the TypePad blogging service and support is planned for similar services such as Blogger, Flickr and Zoto.

This application requires a handheld running Palm OS 4.0 or later with a Wireless Data connection. A built-in camera is recommended but not required. Handhelds without a camera can publish images from a VFS memory card (e.g., from a digital camera).

Two-way synchronization is also supported, enabling images added via the Web site to be downloaded to the handheld.

Pricing and Availability

SplashBlog for Palm OS is available now on the SplashData web site. It current is available for an introductory offer of $19.95 (normally $29.95).

Versions of SplashBlog for other handheld platforms (Windows Mobile Pocket PC, Windows Mobile Smartphone, Symbian Series 60, and Symbian UIQ) will be released during the second quarter of this year.
