Stellus System has announced a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver that works with handhelds with SDIO slots.
The SSI-SDIO-1000 weighs less than an ounce but has an accuracy of 3 meters 50 percent of the time, and 6 meters 95 percent of the time.
It is compatible with handhelds running either the Palm OS or Pocket PC.
This GPS receiver won't come with mapping software, but Stellus System says the SSI-SDIO-1000 is compatible with most such software that is available.
The price for this accessory has not yet been announced.
"When Stellus designed the SSI-SDIO-1000, we focused on key consumer requirements," said Craig Conkling, CEO of Stellus Systems. "Products must be rugged, user-friendly, cost effective, and work with off-the-shelf mapping software."
This GPS receiver is on display now at the CES tradeshow in Las Vegas, in the SD Card Association Pavilion.
This isn't the first GPS SD card. One is also made by Pretec.
