SyChip Announces 802.11g Module for Handhelds

SyChip has introduced a module that can be built into handhelds and smartphones that gives them 802.11g connectivity.

IEEE 802.11g is a wireless networking standard that operates over relatively short distances at up to 54 megabits per second (Mbps). It is significantly faster than 802.11b, which transfers data at a maximum of 11 Mbps. 802.11g is backwards compatible with the earlier standard and both are frequently referred to with the term "Wi-Fi".

SyChip's WLAN 6100EB Embedded Module is just 1.7 mm thick and 12 mm by 15 mm.

It can be used in devices running Palm OS, Windows Mobile, or Linux.

The 6100EB supports 802.11i security and 802.11e Quality of Service traffic prioritization.

SyChip is best known for developing the Wi-Fi SD card that is marketed by several companies, including SanDisk.
