A new cellular-wireless handheld is now available from T-Mobile. The Motorola A630 appears to offer a good balance between voice and data communications.
At first glance, this device appears to be a regular "candybar" cellphone. On the outside is a standard number keypad and a small screen for displaying phone-related information.
However, opening it up reveals a larger, 176-by-220-pixel display, a miniature QWERTY keyboard, and a D-pad.
The A630 uses a proprietary operating system, but it's capable of running J2ME applications. It comes with a suite of PIM software.
This is a tri-band (900/1800/1900 MHz) GSM/GPRS device that supports both voice and data.
Its email application supports POP3, plus the A630 comes with AOL Instant Messenger.
It also has a VGA camera with 4x zoom. Pictures can be sent through Multi-Media Messaging Service (MMS) messages.
This handheld has Bluetooth short-range wireless networking, and therefore can be used with wireless headsets.
The Motorola A630 is available now for $300. For online ordering, visit the T-Mobile web site.
