Back in September, four wireless carriers committed to offering the Treo 600. Three of them have done so, but the fourth, T-Mobile, has yet to begin. Now, palmOne says this smart phone will be available on the T-Mobile network in a couple months.
The Treo 600 is a major upgrade and redesign of the Treo line. It offers Palm OS 5 and 32 MB of memory in a package that is smaller than previous versions. It also includes a camera and an SD slot.
According to a statement on the palmOne site, "We currently plan to begin taking pre-orders for T-Mobile in mid-February and expect to start shipping in early March." The price hasn't been announced.
The other U.S. wireless carriers that are already offering the device are Sprint PCS, Cingular, and AT&T Wireless. Demand for this product is high, and customers have been faced with delays of several weeks.
The Treo 600 runs Palm OS 5.2.1 on a 144 MHz Texas Instruments OMAP processor. It has 32 MB of RAM, of which 22 MB to 25 MB will be available to the user, depending on the set-up chosen by the wireless providers that offering it.
Like previous Treo models, the Treo 600 series has a 160-by-160 pixel color screen. The new models are significantly smaller than their predecessors at 4.41 by 2.36 by .87 inches. The casing design and coloration will vary between service providers.
The Treo 600 was designed by Handspring, but this company merged with Palm Inc. last year to become palmOne.
