Treo 600 May Be Coming to Verizon

Although several wireless service providers in the U.S. and Europe are now offering the palmOne Treo 600, Verizon Wireless isn't one of them. However, it appears that this may change soon.

Yesterday, Verizon briefly had a note on its web site that the Treo 600 will be available soon. Though this has since been removed, it is certainly strong evidence that this company is close to offering this smart phone.

Although wireless carriers like Sprint and AT&T began offering the Treo 600 last fall, others like T-Mobile have only recently began doing so. This smart phone has proved to be so popular that palmOne can't keep up with demand, and companies that agreed first to offer the device have priority for the limited supply.

If Verizon does begin carrying the Treo 600, it will certainly please the nearly 6,000 people who have signed an online petition urging it to do so.

It is not known at this time what Verizon Wireless will charge for the Treo 600.

An Overview of the Treo 600

The Treo 600 runs Palm OS 5.2.1 on a 144 MHz Texas Instruments OMAP processor. It has 32 MB of RAM, of which 22 MB to 25 MB is available to the user, depending on the set-up chosen by the wireless providers that are offering it.

The Treo 600 has a 160-by-160 pixel color screen above a small QWERTY keyboard. It also includes a camera and an SD slot.

The casing design and coloration vary between service providers, but this smart phone is roughly 4.4 by 2.4 by 0.9 inches.

Naturally, the version offered by Verizon will use its CDMA wireless networks.
