Dell has just announced that it will offer a Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for the Dell Axim X50 series later this year.

It also supports persistent storage capability, helping to protect against the loss of personal data and applications when batteries discharge completely.

Dell Axim X50v Dell Axim X50 customers will be able to purchase the upgrade, expected to ship during the third quarter, on compact disc.

The company did not say what the Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade will cost.

More About the Axim X50 Series

There are several models in the X50 series.

One of these, the Axim X50v, is Dell's flagship handheld. This device offers a 640-by-480-pixel (VGA) display, SD and CompactFlash slots, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

A second model in this series is similar, but it has a slightly slower processor and a 320-by-240-pixel (QVGA) display.

The third X50 series model has a lot in common with the other two, but it has only Bluetooth and not Wi-Fi.
