HP has stopped offering its flagship handheld in the United Kingdom.
HP's U.K. web page for iPaq hx4700 now has a note stating: "This product is no longer for sale."
The same is true for two other iPAQs as well, the rx3715 and the rz1710.
However, this does not mean that all of these Pocket PCs have been completely discontinued. Both the hx4700 and rx3715 are still being offered on the U.S. version of HP's site.
The iPAQ rz1710, on the other hand, appears to be completely gone.
It isn't clear at this point what this move means for the future of the hx4700, HP's only handheld with a VGA screen.
This device recently suffered a severe setback when HP revealed that it won't be able to release a Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for it until next spring, many months after its competitors will be running the latest version of this operating system.
This is why it's unlikely that HP is doing what Dell did last month: discontinuing one model to replace it with another running the new operating system.
HP can't do this because it doesn't have a Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for the hx4700.
Thanks to Arkie_VI for the tip.
