Over the last few months, the page on HP's site for downloading drivers for various iPAQs has been a goldmine of information about upcoming models. Once again, three new iPAQs has been added to this page, despite the fact that HP has yet to officially announce them.

The upcoming models listed are the iPAQ hx2100, the iPAQ hx2400, and the iPAQ hx2700.

Unfortunately, HP leaked no details about these models, aside from their names.

Rumors of the hx2700

iPAQ hx2700 This isn't the first time the hx2000 series has come to the world's attention. The hx2700 appeared in the roadmap of upcoming iPAQs that was leaked to Brighthand earlier this year. This model will include biometric security in the form of a fingerprint scanner like the one that is on the iPAQ h5550. The h5000 series is being phased out, so the hx2700 will take its place.

MobileGadgetNews was leaked additional details of this model. Supposedly, the hx2700 will include Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, 128 MB of RAM, and 128 MB of ROM. Half of this ROM space will go towards a 64 MB file store. It will use an XScale processor running at 624 MHz.

It will reportedly offer both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as a CompactFlash slot and an SD/MMC slot that supports SDIO. It will be bundled with a cradle.

One of the primary things separating this model from the hx4705 is that this one will include only a 3.5-inch QVGA screen.

The iPAQ hx2700 is expected to be released in November for $550.

The Other hx2000 Models

The information previously leaked to MobileGadgetNews listed only one other model in this series, not two, so it isn't clear what the feature sets of the iPAQ hx2100 and the iPAQ hx2400 will be. It's virtually certain, though, that they will be scaled-down versions of the hx2700.

The other hx2000 model described by MobileGadgetNews, code-named Morpheus, will be quite similar to the hx2700 but with only a 316 MHz processor, 64 MB of RAM, and 64 MB of ROM. It will supposedly run Windows Mobile 2003 SE.

The two forms of wireless networking and the dual memory card slots will reportedly still be on this model, but only the hx2700 will include the fingerprint scanner.

Whether this is the description for the hx2100 or the iPAQ hx2400 is not known, but it is expected to hit the market in November for $350.

Hopefully future information leaks will nail down the specifications for the iPAQ hx2100 and the iPAQ hx2400.

Thanks to iPAQabilities for the tip.
