There are three handhelds in the iPAQ rx3000 series: the rx3115, rx3415 and the rx3715. These high-end models offer multiple forms of wireless networking.

There's currently a bit of confusion about this series. HP lists all three models on its Pocket PC Quick Specs page, but it appears that this company is only announcing two of these today: the rx3115 and rx3715. And exectly when they will be available is also not clear.

All of these handhelds run the Second Edition of Windows Mobile for Pocket PC. They use Samsung S3C2440 processors. The rx3715 uses a 400 MHz processor, while the rx3115 and rx3415 have a 300 MHz one.

Another difference is the amount of RAM. The rx3715 has 152 MB of memory available to the user, while the other two have 56 MB of user-accessible RAM. All of these have an SD/MMC slot for additional storage.

All the rx3000 series models will include a 3.5-inch, transflective color display with a QVGA (320 by 240 pixel) resolution. Because they use Windows Mobile SE, the screen can easily be switched between portrait and landscape modes.

These iPAQs will all include Bluetooth 1.1 and Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless networking. Included with them will be software that will allow them to easily play music and video streamed from a Windows PC over Wi-Fi.

HP iPAQ rx3715 The rx3415 and the rx3715 have a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera with a 4x digital zoom. This can capture both still images and video. The maximum still picture size is 1280 by 960 pixels. Max video size will be 320 by 240 pixels.

The major difference between the rx3115 and the rx3415 is the first model does not have a built-in camera.

All the models in the rx3000 series have the same form factor. They are 4.5 inches tall, 2.8 inches wide, and 0.64 inches thick (11.4 cm by 7.1 cm by 1.6 cm). The rx3115 and rx3415 weigh 5.2 ounces (147 g), while the rx3715 is 5.6 ounces (158 g) because of its larger battery.

The rx3715 has a darker casing than the other rx3000 series models.

The rx3715 will come with a swappable 1440 mAh Lithium-ion battery, while the rx3115 and the rx3415 will have a swappable 920 mAh battery. Users who would like to extend their battery life will have the option of buying a 1440 mAh battery or a 2880 mAh one.

All these models will come with a pair of stereo headphones and a carrying case. Only the rx3715 will come with a cradle; the other two models will depend on power and synchronization cables.

The iPAQ rx3415 is $400, while the iPaq rx3715 is $500.

Although several online stores have already begun taking pre-orders for some of these models, it's possible that they won't be available until this fall. All the other iPAQs being announced today are listed on HPshopping, the company's official web store, but not the rx3000 series.
