AT&T Wireless is expected to announce the ogo in the near future. This is a clamshell-shaped device that will allow the user to do instant messaging and email.
While it is possible to write long messages on the numberpad of a mobile phone, it isn't particularly easy. The ogo offers a QWERTY keyboard, making this process much easier. It comes with AOL's, MSN's, and Yahoo's instant messaging clients pre-installed.
This device immediately invites comparisons with the Danger hiptop, but the ogo won't support voice, so it can't be used as a mobile phone.
The ogo also won't have a built-in camera, but it will support IXI Mobile's Bluetooth-based Personal Mobile Gateway, so it can be used with peripherals that also support this.
According to Engadget the ogo could debut as early as today. It is expected to cost $130, with a $30 rebate available when it launches. The price for unlimited domestic text messaging will be $17.99 a month.
