The list price of the palmOne Tungsten C has been cut by $100. It had been selling at $499 since its introduction, but it's now $399.
Though palmOne had maintained the $499 price for almost a year, the Palm Store began offering a $100 rebate for the Tungsten C in November.
This model offers a 400 MHz processor, 64 MB of RAM, and built-in Wi-Fi wireless networking, as well as a high-resolution, color screen and an integrated miniature keyboard.
Of course, $399 is simply the new suggested price. Shopper.com shows several stores that offer the Tungsten C for less than $350.
Any time a handheld gets a price cut, there's speculation about whether it means a replacement model is near and the manufacturer wants to clear out its inventory of the current device.
Thanks to its high-end specifications, the Tungsten C has stood up to the competition fairly well, but it was introduced almost exactly a year ago. Faster processors are expected to be available soon and consumers are clamoring for handhelds that use the new Palm OS Cobalt.
palmOne has a long habit of refreshing its product line in the spring, and it's possible an updated version of the Tungsten C will be on its roster.
