palmOne has begun offering a pair of rebates to those who purchase the Tungsten C, its only model with built-in Wi-Fi.
Those who buy a Tungsten C from the Palm Store will qualify for a $100 rebate. This handheld is currently selling for $499, so the final price will be $399. The device must be purchased by February 14.
Another option allows customers who purchase this model to get a free Netgear 802.11b Wireless Router. When ordering the Tungsten C on the Palm Store, adding the router will add only $20 to the cost, and the customer will qualify for a $20 mail-in rebate.
It is necessary to choose between these two offers. Those who purchase a single handheld do not qualify for both.
To learn more or make a purchase, visit the Palm Store web site.
Potential customers should be aware that Shopper.com shows several stores that offer the Tungsten C for less than $350.
Another thing to be aware of is that a surprisingly large number of people never send in their rebate forms. Therefore a customer may pick a particular model because it was cheaper than a competitor after a rebate, then never claim the rebate.
The Tungsten C, which was released last spring, was the first Palm OS model to include integrated Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless networking, the first to offer 64 MB of RAM, and the first to use a 400 MHz processor.
It has a 320-by-320 pixel screen, an SD slot, and an integrated mini keyboard.
