Ricochet is a break-the-bricks style game in the tradition of Arkanoid, Breakout, and a million other clones over the years. However, Ricochet stands our from the crowd by virtue of being one of the best.
Ricochet is direct port of the PC game of the same name. It has 170+ levels, 4 difficulty settings, 4 different styles, and dozens of powerups, both good and bad. The gameplay is familiar to anyone who's played one of the many clone games before, but Ricochet boasts an astounding variety of tricks, traps, challenges, and surprises. There are hardly any levels that are "just another level" --each one has unique hardships and challenges.
While the gameplay is smooth at most times, it sometimes becomes choppy when executing complex explosions and other visually intensive actions. Not surprising given that the PC version requires a 350 MHz processor to run well. All in all, Astraware has done an impressive job in producing so accurate of a port within the finite capabilities of an OS4 Palm.
Ricochet offers a lot to the discerning arcade gamer, not least being that you can play it both on your Palm and your desktop. It's got a huge amount of playability and replayability, and is one of the longest and most wonderfully engrossing arcade games you'll find not just on the PalmOS, but anywhere.
Ricochet is also available in HighRes and OS5/HighRes versions. The basic edition supports monochrome screens.
