Danger has confirmed that this image is for real. With the new data plans offered by T-Mobile and the color screen, I could be a big fan of this device. If they could fix some of the other issues like inability to sync with Outlook I might just keep it after the review.

We've come into possession of a picture of the device Danger has been shopping. It's not immediately clear if this is a mock up of the current device with a color screen or if it's the real deal.

Given the wavy lines, it looks pretty legit. I've asked Danger for confirmation, we'll see what they say. Thus far, they've not released any official pictures of the device.

Last August, Danger launched the Sidekick device on the T-Mobile network with mixed results. They're now prepping a color device for launch later this year. Their primary goal is to penetrate the European markets with this new offering.

Danger has been showing off their unfinished concept at the 3GSM World Congress to potential European buyers in France this past week. The monochrome unit has been available in the US for six months now, but Danger ran into problems getting the Eurpean market to embrace the device. The cell phone markets outside the US are much more advanced and require a more advanced product with color screen.

"The market in Europe has gone from monochrome to color, which is one of the reasons we don't have a device in that market," said Danger CEO Hank Nothhaft in an interview with CNET News.com. "It was a calculated risk to demo the device…if we're this far along, you can anticipate that we will have a color device ready by the end of the year."

Danger is worried about killing sales of their mono unit in the US with word out now of their plans for color. That might be a problem, but Amazon was giving the device away last week. It's now only $50 after rebate. The concern seems unfounded if the devices are almost free. Buying a new color Sidekick and setting it up with your current plan should be no problem.

There is no word on pricing, but units are expected to be available late this year.
