StyleTap 1.0 Palm OS Emulator for Windows Mobile Released

After well over a year in beta, the first full version of StyleTap is now available. This application allows users to run thousands of programs originally written for the Palm OS on a Windows Mobile Pocket PC.

With StyleTap Platform, Palm OS applications appear and operate on a Pocket PC just like native Windows Mobile-based programs. Users can even cut and paste between Palm OS-based applications and native Windows Mobile-based applications on the same handheld.

It includes everything necessary to run most applications and games written for any version of Palm OS (including version 5 applications that use ARMlets).

StyleTap supports virtually all Pocket PCs, including phones with square screens and PDAs with high-resolution VGA screens, in portrait or landscape mode.

Network applications can use Wi-Fi, serial, or USB connections. Infrared and Bluetooth are also supported.

One Application, Multiple Platforms

"There's an enormous base of wonderful software written for Palm OS, and it's great to see those products available on a much wider range of hardware," said Michael Mace, author of the Mobile Opportunity blog and former Chief Competitive Officer at Palm. "The mobile industry and mobile users desperately need a single consistent platform that would let developers write software once and run it anywhere. Mobile Java was supposed to do that, but it failed miserably. I'm delighted that StyleTap has tackled this problem on Windows Mobile, and I look forward to them extending their product to other operating systems."

The developer of StyleTap says that this is the first in a family of products that will bring the ability to run Palm OS applications to devices that run other operating systems, such as the Symbian OS and Windows Mobile for Smartphones.

StyleTap can be purchased at www.styletap.com for $49.95. A free 14-day trial is available. Anyone who purchased a preview version can upgrade to version 1.0 at no charge.
