While most PDA Manufacturers are ditching mono displays, this is the first Palm OS 5 device to willingly go that route. Clearly this unit is a direct attack on BlackBerry.
Exact specs are a little spotty, but here's what we know:
*Features Palm OS 5
*Integrated wireless (for two-way messaging)
*Monochrome display
*Integrated QWERTY keypad
*Touchscreen with stylus
*8MB RAM
*Expansion slot (most likely SD)
*Rechargeable battery with life of one week
These units will be available in the second half of this year for roughly $250. I like the concept, but I'm not sure how this unit will stack up against other wireless PDA options. Certainly the "always on" connection has mass appeal, but are Palm users ready to give up features like color and multimedia for this feature? Hopefully we'll be able to obtain a pre-release unit and report back.
