As it has been so heavily covered in the technology press, it should not have escaped anyone's attention that Microsoft has begun the process of rolling out Windows Vista, the long-delayed next version of its operating system for desktops and laptops.

As people who have been beta testing Vista have discovered, the current version of the Palm Desktop is incompatible with Microsoft's new operating system. However, that won't last long.

According to a company spokesperson, Palm, Inc. is close to releasing a new version of its PC synchronization software that will be compatible with Vista.

The company isn't saying exactly when this will be available, but the application is in the compatibility testing process now. Palm seems to aiming at a release close to the time when Vista will be available to the general public, which Microsoft says will happen in January.
