Number of BlackBerry Users Reaches 7 Million

RIM has just reported the results of its most recent financial quarter, during which its revenues were up strongly.

At the end of this quarter, the total number of current BlackBerry subscribers was approximately 7 million, with 875,000 new subscribers joining during the time period.

Revenue for this fiscal quarter was $835 million, up 49% from the same quarter of last year. The revenue breakdown was approximately 75% for handhelds and smartphones, 17% for service, 5% for software, and 3% for other revenue. 

RIM announced a profit for this quarter of $176.0 million, or 93 cent per share. 

"New product launches during the past few months have exceeded our expectations and we look forward to continuing this momentum into the new year," said Jim Balsillie, Chairman and Co-CEO at RIM.

Update: News that the company had beat analyst' expectations has sent its shares up strongly in after-hours trading.

Looking Forward

During its current financial quarter, RIM is expecting its revenue to be in the range of $900 million to $940 million, leading to a profit between 92 and 99 cents per share.

The company predicts it will gain 950,000 to 975,000 additional subscribers.
